Adopt A GrannyAdopt A Granny

As divorce rates rise and communities fragment, the extended family as it once was is under threat.

Previously, grandparents were at the heart of home life, now they are just as likely to be marginalised, separated, or completely missing from the lives of their children and the generation beyond.

Families separate geographically, through divorce, work, or fall out over silly arguments that do not get resolved – all resulting in grandparents, their children, and grandchildren being separated and contact being lost.

This is such a shame, both for grandparents, parents, and children.

ALL can benefit from having grandparents. Here at Adopt A Granny we aim to bring together families and grandparents that are in need of that special contact that can only be found between generations

Grandparents benefit from an extended familyGrannies and Granddads – by feeling needed by a family, by sharing their knowledge, wisdom and skills, and teaching a whole new generation about life, sharing there experiences and passing on the knowledge acquired through the years, keeping traditions alive and most of all reinforcing the importance of family values.

Children benefit from an extended familyChildren - by having someone else to talk to apart from Mum or Dad, someone to teach them the traditional skills such as carpentry, cooking, to tell them how lucky they are today and remind them what it used to be like.

We all hated that and laughed at it, but we never forgot it and it helped us place value on what we achieved in our lives, not to forget some one to spoil them, I always looked forward to seeing my Gran, it meant a lovely big cream cake(chocolate eclair). Every child should have that, its a part of growing up.

Parents benefit from an extended familyParents – by having an impartial adviser, listener, confidante and inspiration, someone to share the joys and worries of family life. Someone to help with the running of the family, to give the parents a break now and again. Holidays together and the sense of belonging of knowing there is someone to turn to.

These are all things that seem to be disappearing in the world today, we would like to see them return.
